If you wish to start a new career in construction and have little or no experience, the Level 1 Certificate in Plastering qualification has been developed for delivery in a training environment; this means that you do not need to be employed to study this qualification.

It has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work in Plastering in the construction industry or progress to further training.

This course is suitable for those with little or no plastering experience and is designed to provide basic plastering techniques to be able to carry out domestic projects after completion.

The learner must complete all mandatory units to achieve this qualification:

Mandatory Units:

Construction Health and Safety
The purpose of this unit is to develop an understanding of how health and safety is managed within the construction sector
This unit is assessed through a multiple-choice test of 45 questions.
Learners will need to achieve an overall pass at 80%.

Skills for Plastering
The purpose of this unit is to allow learners to develop and demonstrate basic plastering skills.
This unit is assessed through the completion of two NOCN devised practical tasks and associated knowledge questions along with the completion of the NOCN Assessment Booklet to evidence all learning outcomes

Further Skills for Plastering
The purpose of this unit is to allow learners to further develop and demonstrate additional basic plastering skills after completing the Skills for Plastering unit
This unit is assessed through the completion of two NOCN devised practical tasks and associated knowledge questions along with the completion of the NOCN Assessment Booklet to evidence all learning outcomes
The course is workshop and classroom based and will include in depth discussions, demonstrations and practical activities and workbooks.
Learners will complete multiple skimming projects, enabling you to achieve a paintable finish. Additionally, you’ll learn other essential plastering techniques.

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Apply finish plasters to various background surfaces.
  • Understand and usage of finish plasters.
  • Understand uses and types of corner beads.
  • Cut and fix thin coat beads.
  • Prepare various backgrounds to accept finish plaster.
  • Understand backing coats and their uses.
  • Plaster repair a hollow wall.
  • Health and Safety related to each task
