The principles of plastering will be taught in a hands on fashion. The course is entirely workshop based under the guidance of our City and Guilds qualified plastering instructors who will ensure that you complete your training with the confidence to tackle your required plastering jobs. This course is ideal for anyone considering a career in Plastering or for enthusiastic DIY’ers.

By the end of the course delegates will be able to: 

  • Apply finish plasters to various background surfaces.
  • Understand and usage of finish plasters.
  • Understand uses and types of corner beads.
  • Cut and fix thin coat beads.
  • Prepare various backgrounds to accept finish plaster.
  • Understand backing coats and their uses.
  • Plaster repair a hollow wall.
  • Reactions and effects of finish plaster.
  • Apply sand and cement to brick or block walls.
  • Plaster patch repairs to walls and ceilings.
  • Health and Safety related to each task.

The course is entirely workshop based and will include in depth discussions,  demonstrations and practical activities in the following: 

  • Plasterboard and board types.
  • How to correctly plasterboard ceilings.
  • Fixing plasterboard to timber joists using drywall screws and applying scrim tape to straight and internal joints.
  • Types of plasterboard fixings, measure and cut plasterboard correctly, uses and purposes of scrim tape, scrim tape your plasterboard.
  • Applying multi finish plaster to plasterboard and existing plastered ceilings using the correct methods.
  • Mixing and applying base coats, traditional sand and cement floating coats / scratch coats to brick or block walls.
  • Quantities and coverage of materials used in plastering.
  • Angle beads, fixing methods setting techniques also, rubbing up and devil floating base coats.
  • Cutting in of floated walls, ready for skim plaster finishing.

The 2nd week is similar to the 1st week but working on larger areas so as to build your confidence and speed by working more independently but still with trainer guidance where needed.

 You will learn that when plastering is of a high standard of finish it can be both rewarding and satisfying. Our instructors are experienced tradesman, so if you are aiming to work in either your own home or customers’ homes, they will happily answer all your questions about estimating for materials, quoting and pricing jobs.

 Certificate of attendance will be issued to delegates demonstrating the correct levels of understanding and practical skills.

Our 10 day plastering course is suitable for those with little or no plastering experience.
10 Days, Monday to Friday, 9.00am until 4.30pm. (Doors open 8.30am).
