By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

• Identify, select and use the appropriate materials, tools and equipment required
• Preparation of substrates
• Understand consistency and ratios of mix
• Understand and demonstrate Hawk and trowel techniques
• Apply the scratch key without penetrating to the background surface to a depth of 3mm
• Cover an area to the correct depth of 8mm +/-3mm
• Limit surface imperfections
• Measure and cut angled beading
• Understand ruling off methods
• Prepare various backgrounds to accept render.
• Health and Safety related to each task

The course is entirely workshop based and will include in depth discussions,  demonstrations and practical activities in the following:

• Preparation of Substrates
• Consistency and ratio of mix
• Mixing and applying render
• Hawk and Trowel Techniques
• Ruling off methods. Free ruling and box ruling
• Fixing angled beads to be either plumb or level
• Use of Plain and devil floats
• Quantities and coverage of materials used in rendering.
