Why has this course been created:
The construction industry is facing a skills shortage for a range of trades. A Manpower Group Talent Shortage Survey has shown that for five consecutive years skilled construction trades topped the list of hardest positions to fill. Plasterers are a major part of that skills gap.
Training Partnerships Director at British Gypsum David Hall explains “Following a very successful 6 week site ready skimming pilot course delivered in 2019. We are now looking at addressing the skills shortage for plastering skimmers nationally and are now rolling this out with high caliber training providers and we are very pleased to announce our partnership with Silver Trowel Ltd who are based in Hampshire for course delivery.”
The course is aimed at supporting college leavers who have completed a level 2 Diploma or similar plastering based training programmes, subcontractors in upskilling their plastering labourers, general labourer, dry lining tapers, fixers. Plus employees working in similar roles, with the skills required to undertake the 2 coat skimming of plasterboards on-site. Helping them to be prepared, skilled and experienced for working on a range of modern building sites. Silver Trowel are also well known for our support of women in construction.
The course will provide attendees with the skills required to make an immediate and positive contribution on site upon completion of their training with Silver Trowel at its training venue in Lee On The Solent Hampshire. Competence of their skills will be proven with every successful candidate will leave with their Red CSCS Card. Which will enable them to begin working on construction sites across the UK
The 6 weeks of training is fully funded by British Gypsum.

With plenty of on-site parking and easy access routes for our many attendees who travel from right across the UK and beyond.
We are also able to support learners to go on to gain the full NVQ level 2 in plastering by way of on-site assessments should they choose too.

This 6 week skimming course gives prospective employee’s real-life training instruction which can easily be transferred from the training centre directly to site.
